The client requested a caricature-style drawing of himself to put on a sign outside of his store-front. I wanted to keep the character design simple/bold/legible, but with a vintage superhero-type aesthetic. If my illustration is chosen as a finalist, I will be adding a drawing of a mattress, plus relevant text for advertising purposes.")

My reimagined design includes the same color palette, general shape and text composition as the Kentucky Derby reference. I added the silhouette of a miniature pony and replaced the original “148” with a “10” in a similar type-face, as it marks their tenth annual event. Moving forward, I would add a simple line drawing of the two castle-like structures from Churchill Down’s racetrack somewhere in the background to help fill out the space.")

Such a rad concept. It is the work of a neuroscientist who has a black-belt in ninjitsu and also plays competitive tennis. (No biggie, right? Haha!) I was really excited about this project, especially by the prospect of working with such an impressive person.
Requested Style Attributes: Modern, youthful, organic, literal. Not too feminine or too masculine, and somewhere in-between economical and luxurious.
Requirements: A cartoon image of client dressed as a ninja, playing tennis. Intense facial expression, preparing for a volley. The illustration that should be able to stand on its own without any text needed.
Moving forward, I plan to add shadows and highlights to the clothing for more dimension, in addition to some refining of line-work.
Possible Additions:

Background: Logo for a vacation rental home in Hutchinson Island, Florida called Perky Pineapple. Should “jump out” to prospective renters and memorable to past renters. Logo will serve as the rental home’s identity.
Originally, the client had envisioned a “flirty pineapple wearing a bikini with sunglasses and a cocktail,” and I did my best to deliver just that! 🍍 After I submitted my entry, the prompt was expanded to be broader and more general, so as to make room for concepts beyond the original.
Even though my design wasn’t chosen as the winner, I had a lot of fun with this idea regardless of the outcome. :) If I were to go back and revise this draft, I would think of ways to make the illustration/color palette more appealing to the designated age-group (40-70 years old).")
