Growing Stars
We provide online tutoring services to elementary, middle school and high school students in the US across a wide range of subjects. Our tutors interact with their students using VOIP technology (i.e., Skype), an attachable tablet peripheral and an online whiteboard.
http://tutoring.sylvanlearning.com/ -- Clean design, not-too-wordy, easily navigable/understandable to a first time visitor
http://evernote.com/ -- Nice use of graphics. Simple - not too much going on on the page to distract or confuse. Simple color scheme. Nice use of social sharing buttons.
http://www.kaplan.com/pages/default.aspx -- Nice use of schools, student and classroom imagery. Simple navigation. Good ratio of heading size to sub text size.
http://www.bill.com/ -- This site is effective above the fold (less so below). Modern look & feel without being cold. Nice use of space -- leaves room for logo as well as core value tag line. Also like rotating imagery on right side of page.
The homepage should introduce Growing Stars and our basic service, online tutoring. Making use of a clean design, the homepage should allow parents to easily navigate to "subjects & pricing," "how it works," "get started," "blog" and "about us" -- our 5 primary navigation buttons. Below, at the bottom of the page, we want text links to "Contact Us," "Press," "Partners," "FAQs" and "Customer Care" and "Teaching Jobs." The homepage should also present an easy-to-find toll free number as well as a "Live Chat" button. Photos or graphics around electronic education, classrooms, schools or report card themes can be used to convey the ideas in simple, direct, straightforward manner.
The second page layout will be used to convey Growing Stars "Subjects & Pricing" as simply and logically as possible. We are open to redesigns that limit the number of pages and improve user navigation for this content area of our website.
The third page layout will be used generically to provide all other information about the company. It will also be used to host our "Getting Started" inquiry form (currently located here: http://www.growingstars.com/getting-started), as well as "About Us," "Press" and all other content on our site.
Our target market is US parents with school age children, with middle-to-upper level family incomes. We market to parents who value education and academic performance. We also rely on referrals and social sharing to introduce new customers to our service.
We wish to convey professionalism and competence. Parents may have concerns about tutoring delivered online or by overseas tutors. So, we wish our website to convey dependability, high service, experience and efficacy.
While most of our tutors are based in India, we want to convey that ours is a service available and helpful to all types of students in the US.
