Cerveceria Nigromante (translates as "Necomancer Brewery")
New microbrewery in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, focused on high quality, small volume made to order batches of beer. The microbrewery sector in Mexico currently only has less than 1% of the market, but is growing quickly. Customers are willing to pay a premium, and value the novelty factor, but are in general are still not knowledgable of different beer styles and flavors. Much of the microbrew sector is lacking in quality and good marketing. This new brand has stringent quality control and uses premium ingredients, including imported hops and barley, and finely tuned fermentation, and offers six different beer styles, including strong porters and stouts, besides wheat beer and lighter lagers. The initial target market is special events, such as weddings, and local bars and restaurants where it will be offered as the upscale local brew. There is only one other local brewery and the quality is considerably inferior.
We need a beer bottle label design that reflects the brand positioning and concept. The name is of the brewery is "Nigromante" which is Spanish for "Necromancer". This is, besides its usual meaning of "person who communicates with the dead", also the alias of a famous poet and civil rights hero born in the city. San Miguel de Allende is famous for being one of the most attractive and well preserved mining towns in Mexico which played a key role in the Mexican independence movement in the nineteenth century.Today it is has a thriving arts and culture scene. The brand design should evoke the historical weight, and connect the beer with the city. Landmarks include a gothic cathedral, roman style fountains and elegant mansions with stone columns. The brand design needs to differentiate itself from other microbrewery beers which commonly appeal to young customers through flashy, somewhat crude, designs that frequently are a play of cliches: "lucha libre", pyramids, day of the dead costumes etc. All of this should be avoided, and instead the design should be geared towards decadent, old-world elegance with subtle undertones of the mysterious and of the nostalgic. This should be reflected in the image, font and colors chosen. The design used in european wines or quality american spirits can also be used as inspiration. Images of the town are attached for reference.
The design should be versatile enough so that elements of the label can be used in beer glasses, coasters, and printed materials. Since the primary niche market is special events, especially weddings, for which the beer is custom-made according to the customer's preferences, some of the text will be also customized for each occasion. For example, the label could include the name of the bride and groom and the wedding date. Other information in the label should include: brew date, beer style and % alcohol. To give an example, this is the text that can be used as a template:
