Page Chocolate
We make dark chocolate bars from specially sourced cocoa beans. These beans have distinct flavors dependent upon the growing location, harvest year, fermentation and other preparation processes. They are much like a fine wine in that respect. The majority of our chocolates are in the 90% cocoa range (i.e. extremely dark).
We think extreme darks made with simple ingredients are the best. They are more decadent, have nuanced flavors, and a sense of time and place. We think people need to experience this.
We think of our product more like a fine wine, a scotch, a whisky, a microbrew, a cigar. As of now our consumers are aficionados and enthusiasts. But soon, like microbrew and whisky they will gain great popularity.
We sell at a high price point.
Target Audience includes: 25-55 years old, male and female, appreciation for finer things, adventurous and curious, wine lovers, cocktail lovers, throw dinner parties, social, go to wineries, do happy hours, try new restaurants, foodies, trendsetters, quality of quantity, fit, conscientious, chocolate enthusiasts.
Sales outlets: We'd like to sell our chocolate to wine bars, wineries, high end cocktail joints, enthusiast and specialty stores.
Essentially, we are high quality and low volume chocolatiers.
We're using a die cut sleeve to hold our chocolate bar. I have attached a picture of a current version on the market that we think is pretty good (This is a company Fruition, this is not our company! We simply like the die cut shape). I have a letter press guy and a paper company that can do the die cut. So, really we just need help with the art/styling/aesthetic of the package. There will be some scaling adjustments when we go to manufacture, but to give you a rough idea the package will be rectangle 6 inch long, 3 inch wide, 1/4 inch thick.
Package Elements (I attached a pencil drawing I did as reference):
*Company Name (We refer to ourselves as Page Dark)
*The word "Chocolate" - we've been loving the phrase "Wild Chocolate"
*Cocoa % - For example 91%
*Harvest Year - For example Harvest 2016
*Batch # - For example #1101 - we'd like to affix with a stamp
*Bean Origin - For example Honduras
*Weight - 60 grams 2 ounces (need to include metric and standard)
*Handsomely Made in a Home Kitchen - CA law requires 12 pt font and front of package. We'd like to downplay this element as we plan to move to a commercial kitchen soon.
*Flavor notes - For example: french bread, vanilla, black coffee
*Ingredients - For example: cocoa beans, organic cane sugar, vanilla
*Enjoy By - the enjoy by date we'd like to affix with a stamp
*Location - For example San Francisco, CA, 94115
*Contains no dairy, gluten, nuts, or soy
*A small statement or write-up (maybe): For example - Wild chocolate makes the weak strong and the strong happy.
*A small slogan (maybe): For example - Pleasure Guilty
*Possibly the words "suck it" referring to how dark chocolates should be enjoyed (it's the best way to enjoy the complex flavors and not be overpowered by their strength)
We'd like to use some embellishments such as letter pressing, embossing, foiling, etc.
Final note: we are launching with 3 different types of bars. Also, we will very often discontinue bars and offer new harvests and origins. So, we need some element in the package that can change with new releases. Different paper? Different design images? Etc?
3 Bars we will launch with:
*88% Ecuador Puerto Quito
*91% Honduras Wampusirpi
*90% Salted Vietnamese Ben Tre
Our vision is somewhere between beautiful and traditional. By beautiful I recommend googling the images of Dandelion Chocolate. They use gorgeous textured and tactile papers, with gorgeous creams and whites and gold foiling designs. Also, see Mast Brothers images.
By traditional we recommend googling images for Scribe Winery. We love this company.
You might call us hipster or boho chic. But, to us its about living a life full of personal style, enjoying food and drink with friends and family. Sitting on porches, watching the sunset, hanging around a fire or old picnic table. Waking up early to rich coffee on a cold morning. Love and laughter. And of course dark dark chocolate.
Be creative please!!! We do not know what we are doing with packaging and need your help!
We're hoping to find someone to work with on a go forward basis. For example, package updates, website design, and blog posts.
Thanks!!
