South Pacific Rum craft distillery startup needs a bottle label

The Distillery Company Limited

The Distillery Company Limited is a small batch artisan microdistillery located in Port Vila, Vanuatu. It is the only distillery in the country and it specializes in making rum with molasses and sugarcane from the Melanesian Pacific Islands. It also creates flavourful liquors with local organic plants that showcase what Vanuatu has best to offer to the world.

We want to appeal to the international market therefore we would like to have a nice label to compete with international brands.

We want a style that evoke banknotes, old style post stamps, coat of arms. Basically, engraving. You can check the design of "Don Papa rum" where you clearly see the "engraving" effect of the illustrations. We would like to showcase different symbols, animals, plants of the country. The Coconut tree, the pirogue, volcano (mount Yasur), the shapes of the islands (shape of the country : Y), coconut crab, slit drums, the tribe warrior, the hunting bow, a dugong, scolopendra, cascades, flying fox, earthquake, blue hole, pure water, lava, etc. I've included some files but most of them are not licenced, it's only for reference.

One idea we had is to display some of those symbols in a kind of "lost paradise scene" that somehow make senses. You can check out the "Les sauvages de la mer du Pacifique", an old wallpaper from Jean-Gabriel Charvet for some examples. We are open to other ideas.

Typeface logo included in attached files (we are not in love with our typeface logo). Our bottle will be the shape of a regular bordeaux wine shape but clear. the label can occupy all the space or not, there can be more than one label (front+back). Check the reference pdf for detailed sizes.

Our working name for this brand is «Yumi Rum». It's a bold name for that market but it has deep meaning locally and we think that we can build on the story we can create around the name.

Yumi means "us". It's you+me. It's the basis of the country's national anthem, it's the letter Y and the shape of the country's islands. It's something we share together, it's a time for you and me, etc.
