The nutritional value of the food we consume is measured in aggregate across three key areas - Macronutrients and Micronutrients (which consists of Vitamins and Minerals). Each of these areas consists of a list of nutrient specific items. In Macronutrients for example you have Protein, Fat, Carbohydrates, within Vitamins you have Vitamin A, C, D, within Minerals you have Iron, Potassium, Zin, etc. In all there are between 35-40 nutrient items across the three key areas of Macronutrients, Vitamins and Minerals. An apple for example, would have a nutritional values that aligned with Sodium, Vitamin C, Sugars, Dietary Fiber, etc.
Our team is looking for a design that translates the total of all the nutrient values tied to the food a person consumes in one day into a metaphor that shows how they did to fulfill the requirements of recommended daily intake. The design metaphor is something that will be used online (web) and inside an app (mobile) to show a person how they fared in what they ate against what is recommended via the recommended daily intake. The design metaphor needs to, as simplistically as possible, show how all of the individual nutrient specific items can roll up to a 'single score' or one symbol that demonstrates on a quick glance how they did for the day.
