I am looking for something very specific, 5+ star worthy, although I truly have no idea what that is. I will know it when I see it, or when I see something in line with it and I can work with the designer for the finished product.
ABOUT THE PRODUCT AND CONTEST
You should take some time to understand how the mat works. It allows one to measure, be aligned and symmetrical. See attached pic of prototype and some examples...1 of them shows proper and improper aligned to show difference.
I have also uploaded some pics to show you some not great designs I have worked on in the past. It is just a way to help if it does at all. But they are still not very different, and are there really just to show freedom from the limitations of designing it with every line as on the prototype. DO NOT copy my sample designs and make them look nicer - - NEED INGENUITY, CREATIVITY
The 2 mid lines, up and down, must be labeled '0'.
I am not looking for a beautiful background of the mat (at this point), but I am looking for the lines and numbers to have an aesthetically pleasing and functional design. Please limit it to 2 colors, 1 preferred - - which Im hoping is inferred that I am not looking for a colorful design background.
Main point is, as long as the mat is aesthetic and functional to its purpose, I am open to anything. IMPORTANT - - - Take a look at two competitors who also have numbers on the mat..."gurugrid" and "yoga by numbers". I am not saying I want the mat to look like that or to be copied etc. It is just to show that a mat with numbers can be aesthetic and functional. And again, the lines are important, but not completely necessary, or at least not completely necessary on the entire mat as I have it now. It is all in flux and I am looking for that design that sparks.
A. I think the first and foremost best advice I can give is "Less is More."
B. "One of the main complaints with the prototype (see pic “Prototype”) was that it was too busy and very plain. "
C. "Try to really imagine yourself using the mat, how it works/functions, and combine a pleasant (not too busy) look with functionality."
This product prototype as it is now (as you can see in the pics) is very static, and I want to change that.
******* In simple terms, think of an x-y graph/axis, and try to make it with the same functionality but not as block type visually. Not every spot on the graph is important. Not every line or number is crucial. Not every line art or number art needs in the same quadrant needs to be similar. (As you can see, there are 4 identical / equal quadrants.) Some areas of the yoga mat are more crucial then others. It might or probably will help if you are a yogi or consult with a yogi, or look at other yoga mats with designs on them that serve an alignment / symmetry purpose. There are plenty online, a good search of ‘yoga alignment mat’ or ‘yoga lines mat’ will bring good results.
BUT again, it still must serve its purpose. >>To be functional to allow for alignment and to measure all points. The symmetry will come by itself as each quadrant will be exactly similar ( a mirror image of the other).
** To save time you do not have to design the entire mat, only 1 half or 1 quarter section, as all the remaining will be exact mirror image. Feel free to email with questions. Thank you and good luck!
