How tw1 started their logo & hosted website journey
Who are you known as?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Sommelier services for corporate, event and private home group wine tastings. Serving groups from 4 to 100. Expert selection of wines from either local wineries or wine stores. Custom tasting notes for attendees, theme or game based tastings.
The area I am marketing in are the wealthy suburbs or Northern Virginia and Maryland surrounding Washington DC. Also marketing within the District Of Columbia to politicians, attorneys and others of that type. The name NOVA Somm comes from the acronym for Northern Virginia plus the now common shortened version of Sommelier: Somm.
I own the domain name novasomm.com.
Follow on work opportunity: Upon completion of the logo and site portion I will also be wanting someone to design a small postcard sized flyer to be left at wine stores and otherwise distributed. It includes basic information from the website as well as incorporate the same design elements. A business card design as well would be good.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
Food & Drink
What colors do you want to see in your design?
Other color requirements
I'd like to explore the following colors:
Reds: Energy, action, passion and love.
Yellows: Energy, intellect, fun and youth.
Let designers make suggestions:
To give us an idea of the overall feeling of your brand, let us know which styles you lean towards
Looking for a simple, elegant design incorporating basic wine elements of perhaps just a dark wine bottle and a glass of wine that looks like it has a light golden colored wine in it. The addition of a cluster of grapes might look good. Looking for an elegant yet modern font. The one in the attached pic for worldsom is a good example. The windy city example might be interesting with incorporating the name NOVA Somm on the bottle with it upright or turned sideways or even just a outline type image of me on the label.
Also open to creative ideas but would like basic wine elements included. I have attached a number of wine logos I like that may provide ideas as to what markets well and that I find appealing. It needs to be versatile enough to be used on a website, flyers, postcards and a business card so probably more use of basic shapes than incorporating pictures.
The attached OnWine logo provides a good example and NOVA could be on the bottle in smaller letters with Somm coming off it in larger letters. Somm can be in all caps if it looks better. I think a more readable font than they have might be better.
What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the logo and hosted website?
Clean, minimal information and graphics but enough to attract those who need professional Sommelier services. Borrow design aspects from other sommelier sites. Incorporate a picture of myself that I can provide. Use of an elegant looking font so long as it and the rest of the site displays well on phones. Looking for it to be elegant and to the point. Many of the other sommelier sites I have looked at for someone doing the same thing have too much information much of which could be gone over once a client contacts me.
The site is to the point in that it states what I do and gets someone ideally to pick up the phone or otherwise fill out a contact form that requires their email address and phone number in order for them to submit it. In essence slick, professional and lean.
I will not be closing deal from this site but rather when I get them on the phone and demonstrate my ability to fulfill their needs.
It is most important to me that the site load quickly and be easy to read on mobile devices with phones being the highest priority. Based on my marketing many will never view the site from a computer. It should be designed with mobile in mind foremost and then so it displays well on a computer.
Jimdo templates to explore
At the top a good picture of wine in glasses that really pops. One that has glasses of wines of different colors. The picture on http://www.sommelierathome.hk/ is a great one. My logo off to the side of the glasses but overlayed in the same frame as the photo. Or if photo too dark logo above or off frame.
Then a brief listing of services in bullet points / short paragraphs. A small space for a couple of testimonials and a link to the contact us page.
On the about page:
A picture of me (I will be going by T.C. Watson) and short paragraph and bullets about my experience. Then a small space for a couple of brief testimonials and logos of clients. Perhaps another slick looking picture of wine or a vineyard or grapes up close at the top.
Contact Us page:
Simple contact form that requires email address and phone before it can be submitted. Phone number listed on page and something to the effect of "call us to discuss your tasting".
