How The NTF Group started their logo design journey

Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We are building a global community of micro-entrepreneurs, leaders and supporters. The focus is on small business / tech start-ups, business owners and independent-minded managers in larger businesses.
The focus of the website is on the programming language R. R is a computing language and suite of open-source software used for data manipulation, calculation and graphical display. So our main audience will consist of an intelligent, tech savvy group of people with a high level of understanding in the statistical computing/graphics environment. We want a simple yet smart design that R users can immediately connect with. Please visit the R website (http://www.r-project.org/) to learn more about it. This may help you gain a better understanding of our user groups.
We have discussed the possibility of using the “greater than” ( < ) in between the Connect and R but it is not a definite that we want this. So it would look like this essentially… Connect < R. The idea behind this being that R code is written on the command line which always begins with <. If you think having the less than symbol > on the other side of the R looks good then please feel free to incorporate that as well. We would love to see some variations of the logo with no symbols, with just the greater than and with both!
The colour scheme should be fairly simple because the webpage will most likely be designed in accordance with the logo.
Please visit http://www.r-project.org/ or the many other sites that have R related info to read more about the language and software it provides.
