At The Great Food Co we give through food. We treat our customers like friends and family, inviting them into our warm fragrant refuge to escape from the rush and stress of their world. They can see and smell everything being made from fresh locally sourced ingredients, in the slow caring way of our Grandmothers. We are passionate about what we do because we love, believe in, and are proud to serve our wholesome delicious food!
There are 4 aspects to the company radiating from a hub where everything is made. There is the cafe; where the food is wholesome and made with care and customers feel known. There is the catering division where the same great food is served with attention to detail both when it is ordered and when it is prepared and delivered. There is the To Go division also made in small batches with ethically sourced food. There are the cooking classes where the goal is to keep alive the skills of our Grandmothers, to use what is available and waste nothing.
What makes us different from others is that we really do make everything here from scratch! Nothing is brought in partially made and finished here. We buy everything in its simplest form and with time, care and knowledge, transform it into attractive, delicious, nutritious food. We don't follow the trends, in fact we are often ahead of them, we follow what we believe in and along with the “great food" we share with our customers our friendship, our knowledge and our calm nurturing atmosphere. They love that we remember them and what they like. They like our clean, bright open kitchen where they can see the food being made.
Our customers are busy working people that are concerned about their health. They want to eat food that is grown or raised locally, compassionately and without pesticides and antibiotics. The young people today are concerned with health and fitness and no longer want cheap, fast food. So our customers now include both men and women from 20 to 90. They appreciate that our food is made and tastes like what they would make at home, or better. Our customers trust that whether they bring clients here, serve our food at their meetings or at their homes, they can depend on quality and friendly service.
Our staff in their cheerfully colored polo shirts and whimsical aprons are proud to say they work here. They believe in the integrity of our product and the compassion we show our customers. They are respected, challenged to be creative, and encouraged to be different. And best of all they get to be the taste testers!
In 3 years we have all 4 facets running independently. Each has a manager and team. We have a marketing team to work with all 4 and a central production kitchen where all food is prepared. We have expanded our distribution geographically to include all of the lower mainland, we stay in small independent ethical stores. We always produce in small batches to maintain our standards of honest, simple, wholesome food. We are a company with quality, integrity and compassion at its heart.
