AUNTIE AWESOME derivation and connotation: partly echoing the old book Auntie Mame: key quotation: "Live! Life is a banquet and some poor suckers are starving to death". AUNTIE for a younger generation will have the sense of an older, favourite endearing Aunt who has gone places and done things and now tells stories in a charming and entertaining manner. Auntie is adventuresome, a bit unconventional, confidant, self-reliant, positive, up-beat.
AWESOME: modest jocular hyperbole, lighthearted and a bit ironic, it is a sly glance over the shoulder at overworked modern usage; but retains the meaning of inspiring, impressive, worthwhile; unusual, out-of-the-ordinary, one-of-a-kind
